About

The Albion River Inn combines the romance of sea and sky with elegant lodging, unparalleled ocean views, and an acclaimed restaurant.

Hailed by Bon Appetit as “…one of the best to grace the golden state shore.” The restaurant and inn crown ten acres of ocean bluffs which Travel and Leisure magazine calls, “…a magnificent location in a precipice that drops dramatically to the canyon where the Albion River meets the sea.”

The Albion River Inn’s twenty spacious and private guest rooms are housed in fifteen New England style cottages all with stunning ocean views. The rooms have fireplaces and private decks, are filled with amenities such as robes, binoculars, wine, coffee and newspapers, and are individually decorated with an eye to elegant simplicity and comfort. Cottages with luxurious spa tubs and spacious tubs for two are available. A complimentary full breakfast is available each morning in the cliff-top restaurant with a sumptuous menu of frittatas, blintzes, fresh juices and fruits, muffins, home made granola, hot oatmeal with honey, and more, all served with locally roasted robust Thanksgiving Coffees.

Open year-round, the Albion River Inn Restaurant is as famous for its food as for its view. Two window walls provide ocean views from all the tables, while a cozy brick fireplace brings a soft and romantic glow to the tastefully decorated interior. The menu showcases the coastal cuisine of acclaimed executive chef Stephen Smith, and celebrates California’s bounty of fresh seafood, meats, garden vegetables, and fruits. A selection of over 375 wines and 95 single-malt scotches has earned the restaurant a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence for nine consecutive years, and Restaurant Hospitality magazine’s award for Best U.S. Wine List in 1998.

The knowledgeable and gracious staff makes every dining experience enjoyable. Whale and bird watching from your room or private deck is enhanced at the Albion River Inn with binoculars in every room. Within minutes of the inn guests can shop fine art galleries and boutiques, fish, kayak, bicycle, hike, play tennis, horseback ride, tour local wineries and microbreweries. Annual festivals such as the Whale Festival in March, Mendocino Music Festival in July, and Winesong in September provide additional entertainment as do local theater, dance and comedy groups that perform throughout the year.

The Albion River Inn sponsors photography workshops in the spring and fall, and the Mendocino Art Center offers exciting classes in a number of different mediums. Best of all, at the end of a full day, romantic beaches beckon with sunsets that set the sky on fire.
