Our beautiful and comfortable inn is located on the ocean, where the Albion River meets the sea, six miles south of the historic village of Mendocino on California's rugged Mendocino Coast.
Our coastline is blessed with towering forests, river and riverine estuaries, headland cliffs and trails, sandy beaches, rocky coves and outcroppings, and always dramatic white water views. Our State Parks offer access to all these wonders, including virgin redwood groves, fern canyons trails, meadering creeks, and hidden water falls.
Sea kayaking, river canoeing, snorkeling, scuba diving, and surfing are available, as is tennis, golf, and horseback riding. Whale watching and commercial fishing trips are available out of Noyo Harbor in Fort Bragg. The Gray Whale migration in late fall through early spring gives excellent opportunities to view these magestic giants of the sea from every headland cliff, including your own guestroom and private deck at Albion River Inn.
Charming sea-side villages dot the coast from Gualala in the south, to Westport in the north. The historic village of Mendocino is the queen of the coast, and sits on a headland promontory surrounded by wild meadows and the sea. You can enjoy art galleries, clothing and jewerly boutiques, and eclectic shopping and dinning of all kinds there. Live theatre, dance, and musical events from jazz and rock, to piano recitals and string quartets take place on the Mendocino Coast throughout the year.
All summer and most weekends, the historic Skunk Train leaves Fort Bragg to rumble through redwood forests on narrow guage tracks. The Botanical Gardens are always open with 27 gorgeous acres of native and hybrid plantings that wend their way down to the sea. Each May the Mendocino Film Festival presents independant films, and in July the Mendocinio Music Festival presents 12 days of live music - jazz, blues, opera, dance, and symphonies, and choral works - under the big white tent on the Mendocino headlands. Each September, Winesong - a gala wine auction event with delicious food and wine tastings - is held in the Botanical Gardens.
