The workshop fee does not include transportation, lodging, and other meals. If you are a guest at the Albion River Inn, a complementary full breakfast is included each morning of your stay..

Reception: Sunday October 18th, at 5:30 pm. You'll meet and chat with Robert Glenn Ketchum, fellow workshop participants, and Albion River Inn co-owner, Flurry Healy, your host for this informal reception. This opening event sets the mood for relaxed interaction within the group. Traveling companions are invited to the reception.

Dinner Party: Thursday evening Oct. 22nd, begins at 8:00 p.m. at the Albion River Inn bar with sparkling wine and hors d'ouevres. We sit to table at 8:30 to enjoy a specially prepared feast paired with fine wines. The dinner party is included in your workshop fee.

Dinner Party Guests: Your companion is welcome to attend the 5-dinner with wines for a fee of $95.

Robert Glenn Ketchum: Robert is a master landscape photographer and dynamic and engaging instructor. He shares his knowledge unstintingly in discussions, informal lectures and constructive critiques of participants work. He will present a show and lecture of his work, and discuss his efforts to help preserve and protect wild and endangered landscapes.

Digital component: Jeanne Gadol will lecture about basic digital workflow from the field to the print and beyond. For interested students, she will lead a separate session focusing on manipulations in Adobe Photoshop.

Large Format Printing: Larry Brenden will lecture on large format digital techniques for the home printer.

Albion Field Station: seminar meetings are held at the spacious and comfortable Albion Field Station just across the river from Albion River Inn. Field Station managers make us comfortable in their tucked away, rustic retreat. We’ll use their large central dining hall with couches and tables for seminars and lunch, and a special slide room for any slide presentations. A large digital monitor and projector are available for showing work. Coffee and tea are available all day, and gourmet bag lunches will be delivered to the field station for lunch. Workshop seminars begin at 9 a.m. and end around 4 pm allowing time for field work..

Canoe Trip: canoes are available at the Field Station for self-led excursions up Albion River. This gentle tidal river offers easy canoeing into a forested river ravine setting. Deer, seal, otter, osprey, blue heron, egrets, duck, geese and many different birds are encountered along the river in season. Cougar and beer live along the ridges and river ravine but are rarely sighted. Bring water proof plastic bags for your camera. Don't pass up this relaxing change of pace during the workshop.

Fieldwork: Weather is usually temperate during October, but we are on the coast, and weather happens, so rain, fog, and overcast are always possible. The light can and will change quickly. Bring layered clothing, a sweater and jacket, poncho or light protective rain gear, and plastic bags for your gear so you're ready for any weather. Robert will lead the first field excursion, and then encourages you to visit sites on your own, in pairs, or small groups. There are miles of state beaches, quaint seaside villages, headland trails, acres of sand dunes, fern creek trails, state parks, a Botanical Garden, pygmy forest, and virgin redwood groves all within easy distance from the Albion River Inn. Individual coastal maps and a list of easily accessed site recommendations are provided. Access is usually within 1/4 mile of the road, so major hiking is not required.

Hiking: There are great hiking trails in all of the many nearby state parks and beaches.

Car Pooling: Car-pooling is encouraged.

No Film Development Availalbe: There is no quality film development on the coast, so if you shoot film, you will not be able to have it reviewed during critiques.

Critiques: Bring as many digital images, slides, and prints of your work from home as you wish. Work will be critiqued as time allows, but Robert makes a point of giving in-depth, supportive feedback. He always works to further your individual artistic vision and style, so bring your best work to show, but also bring those "problem" images you know could be improved and put them on the talbe for discussion. The critiques are where most of the learning goes on.

Lodging: Participants make their own lodging reservations for a 5-night stay, arriving Sunday October 18th and departing on Friday at noon, October 22nd. Plan on arriving at check-in time on Sunday (3 pm) so you can relax before the reception that evening at 5:30 p.m.
